In the latest episode of βThis Is A Tokenβ, Alex is joined at his home in London by brilliant textile artist, friend and self confessed βnon-jewellery loverβ Tessa Brown, for a chat about some bittersweet jewellery she owns, with a fascinating, dark and complicated family history.
Listen in as Alex and Tessa discuss her stepmother's South American adventures (and lucky escapes) with a Texan treasure hunter, a pair of spectacular 'Chilean' Handbag Earrings, and how jewellery so often functions as the remnants of the legacies that make us who we are.
βTessa is an inspiration. Mid life and mid career she returned to full time education to pursue her passion for textiles and fine art. Her M.A. final exhibition was very nearly spoiled by coronavirus but they got it all together and it was a huge success. What is even more incredible are the stories of adventure, murder, pirates and survival connected to some very special pieces of jewellery she has inherited. This one is a rollercoasterβ¦ hold onto your hats!β
