40 Years of Alex Monroe: Behind the Scenes of Our Anniversary Film

To celebrate 40 years of Alex Monroe, we wanted to return to where it all began, 40 years dreaming, crafting and making by hand. The wonderful Sim and his team visited us at our Snowsfields boutique, to take a little look behind the bench.

Each piece begins with an idea: a memory from childhood, a piece of literature or study of nature and the British countryside. From there comes the sketches, studies of flora or sculpture, before thoughtfully choosing materials and tools until, with time, the idea is brought to life.

40 Years in the Making

How do you capture 40 years of jewellery making in just a few minutes? To mark Alex Monroe’s 40th anniversary, we sat down with Alex to look back at four decades spent designing, making and finding endless inspiration in the natural world.

Behind the Scenes

For a story spanning four decades, it felt only right to surround Alex with the things that tell it best: sketches, tools, archive jewellery and the wonderfully familiar surroundings of the workshop.

Jewellery still begins with Alex’ and the design teams drawings and ideas, before passing through the hands of our talented workshop team. Shaped, textured, soldered and finished using traditional jewellery-making techniques.
