Shining a Light on Mummy’s Star

Shining a Light on Mummy’s Star

In honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we're shining a light on the incredible work of Mummy’s Star, the only charity in the UK and Ireland dedicated to supporting women and birthing people diagnosed with cancer in or around pregnancy.

From offering emotional, practical and financial support to creating a community where families never have to feel alone, Mummy’s Star provides a lifeline during some of life's most challenging moments. We're proud to be supporting this wonderful charity through our very special star-studded Trunk Show.

A Little Light in the Dark

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we're honoured to be supporting such a special cause.

Inspired by our wonderful longtime customer Anna, we've joined forces with Mummy’s Star, a remarkable charity dedicated to helping families navigate a cancer diagnosis during pregnancy or early motherhood.

Together, we're hoping to spread a little light, raise awareness and celebrate the extraordinary strength of those facing life's most difficult moments.

Getting to Know Mummy's Star

Mummy’s Star is the only charity in the UK and Ireland dedicated to supporting women and birthing people diagnosed with cancer in or around pregnancy.

A time that should be filled with excitement and joy can suddenly become one of uncertainty, fear and overwhelming decisions. That's where Mummy’s Star steps in, offering a helping hand to families when they need it most.

From emotional, practical and financial support to a 24/7 online peer support community, the charity helps families navigate an incredibly challenging chapter, reminding them that they're never alone.

Their wonderful work also extends to educating healthcare professionals and campaigning for greater awareness and better care for parents facing cancer.

The Story Behind the Charity

Behind Mummy’s Star is a story of love, loss and an extraordinary legacy.

The charity was founded in 2013 by Pete Wallroth in loving memory of his wife, Mair, who was diagnosed with breast cancer at 22 weeks pregnant with their second child. Heartbreakingly, Mair passed away just two months after their son's birth, aged 41.

Determined to ensure that other families facing similar circumstances could access the care, guidance and understanding they needed, Pete established Mummy’s Star.

Meet Anna

From Pain to Purpose

“ Pain to purpose has become my motto. ”

Anna, Mummy's Star Trustee

Our connection to Mummy’s Star began with the wonderful Anna, a longtime Alex Monroe customer and Trustee of the charity, whose personal journey inspired this very special collaboration.

In May 2024, just days after her 40th birthday, Anna was diagnosed with breast cancer while her youngest daughter was just seven months old. What began as a visit to have a suspected blocked milk duct checked led to an unexpected diagnosis, turning life with three young children upside down.

Following surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, Anna's experience has brought an entirely new perspective and sense of purpose to her life. Since her diagnosis, she has retrained in breathwork and yoga and become a Trustee of Mummy’s Star, helping to support other women and families navigating cancer during pregnancy and early motherhood.

In Anna's own words:

“Cancer changed every part of my life, but it also gave me a hell of a lot too. ‘Pain to purpose’ has become my motto and I hope to spend the next chapter of my life helping other women find hope in theirs.”

For Anna, being part of the Alex Monroe x Mummy’s Star collection represents a particularly meaningful moment.

“Mummy’s Star has become such a huge part of my life, and to represent a collection created for all those little Mummy’s Stars and to shine a light on women and families facing cancer during pregnancy or motherhood, feels incredibly special.”

A truly special collaboration, celebrating strength, hope and the power of supporting one another.

Little Stars, Making a Difference

Inspired by Anna's story and the incredible work of Mummy’s Star, our busy bee jewellers have been back at their benches, lovingly handcrafting a collection of exclusive star-inspired treasures.

Each piece is completely one of a kind, created with care and a little extra love. And for every Trunk Show treasure sold, £50 will be donated to Mummy’s Star, helping the charity continue its invaluable work supporting families.

Just like the stars that inspired them, these little treasures are made to shine a light and make a difference.
