In an ever-changing world, we feel the increasing importance of staying connected to our natural environment.Sense of Nature offers a reminder to keep our feet on the ground and appreciate the world that we live in, and how we are able to experience it.The visual inspiration for the collection came from Alex’s long-standing fascination with Milagros or Ex-Voto - metallic folk tokens used as religious offerings in Mexico, Latin America and Italy.Hand-carved quirky charms depict miniature body parts and ornate sacred heart motifs to form medallions. Alongside these fun elements, the senses are celebrated through intricate engravings symbolising touch, sight, sound, scent and taste.
Historic StylesOur Gratitude for Nature Girandole Earrings were inspired by a 17th century design, in which three dangling pear-shaped ornaments, often gemstones, were suspended from a central bow motif. This design enjoyed popularity for a hundred years, but when the fashion waned, the earrings were often disassembled and the parts repurposed as pendants and earrings - meaning that originals are now extremely hard to come by.
